I take back what I said about me being one of the most web savviest people around. If I was, then I would have heard about the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival and conference before it happened.

Regardless, I now know about it and hope to claim my rightful thrown in web geekdom next year. Until then, I thought you might enjoy a little slide show on how to bluff your way through CSS.

However, I’m not sure this information is actually useful, unless you’re at a web developer party surrounded by a bunch of people like me and you want to sound cool. And god let’s hope that is not the case.

Being the CSS snob that I am, I found this presentation hilarious. I particularly liked the section on how to appear like you know what you’re talking about:

If tables come up in conversation…

  • Tutt or huff, roll your eyes and generally sound irritated.
  • Say that you stopped using tables years ago and all your sites are now tableless.
  • Say that it???s been so long since you created a site using tables, you wouldn???t know how to do it any more.

Ain’t that the truth?

There are some good references toward the end if you want to learn more about CSS. I’ll include the CSS community sites here in case you’re lazy.

Though I don’t think I would have learned much by going to the session, it would be interesting to go to a conference where sessions like this one exist.

Can you imagine a gaggle of web geeks postulating of the merits of Fahrner Image Replacement (FIR), scalable Inman Flash Replacement (sIFR), and the Leahy/Langridge Technique?

SXSW was held March 11–20, 2005 in Austin, Texas. It was established in 1994.
